High Society Jazz Band
Back in 1960, a group of enthusiasts met in a Falkirk pub for a “blow”.

The eventual product of this meeting was the “High Society Jazz Band”, and 50 years later it is still live and kicking.

The personnel has changed over the years with only one original member;Jim Lumbsden still playing. However, Robin is the son of one of the founding members Jim Robertson .

The band plays a wide variety of material from Trad Jazz favourites to Blues, Swing and Mainstream.

This band are the perfect way to have your evening go with a ‘Swing’.

How to Incorporate Solo Guitar into Your Day
Background music helps to create a special atmosphere while guests remain relaxed and are happy to continue chatting.  Background music is effective during a meal, a drinks reception or as guests are arriving.  Most styles of music can work well as background music.
Possible times to include music during a wedding day include:
• As guests arrive for the ceremony
• As the bride walks down the aisle
• During the ceremony - for example during the signing of the register
• As the bride and groom exit
• In the background as guests leave at the end of the ceremony
• During drinks reception
• In the background at a sit down meal

Music in Scotland

"Many thanks for playing at our reception. You added a beautiful ambience to our daytime meal. Many of our guests remarked on how.much they enjoyed the music and still allowed them to continue with a normal conversation . We will be recommending you to our friends for any future weddings”

Mr Mrs T Charles, Stirling

“Robin added to the success of our event with super playing which all our guests enjoyed. Again a big thank you for your contribution to our big day”

Colin Day, Glasgow

"As a musician and guitarist myself, the music side of our wedding was very important to both of us. We asked Robin to play at our wedding at relatively short notice, playing both during the signing of the register in the church and during the reception. Robin tailored his music brilliantly to suit both situations with a great mix of classical, jazz and light pop pieces. In doing so he appealed to everyone across the wide range of ages at the wedding- we have had heard compliments from a 5year old, to the granny, as well as some very accomplished musicians we had as guests. As well as being an excellent guitarist, Robin has an extremely professional attitude and equally important, a very friendly and warming personality which was also commented on by all the guests that spoke with him."

Duncan and Jenni, London

"Robin Robertson’s guitar playing immediately gave a relaxed, happy atmosphere complimenting the candles and canapés. During the interval, while the guests ate, he played some jazz standards (all favourites of mine…how did he know…we had never met before). Again, he contributed to the mood of the evening by playing music that contrasted beautifully from the lively folk dances of Scotland. It was a really great night, thanks to Robin.
I heard nothing but praise from those who were there. Being a musician and film fanatic, I appreciate how important music is even when we are not ‘consciously’ listening. Robin creates a feeling of well-being without one realizing it.”

If you’re looking for a great teacher who knows his stuff and is approachable, friendly, relaxed and genuinely interested in teaching guitar, Robin’s your man!

Robin is clearly a great player himself (although very modest!) who is totally passionate about music and guitars – exactly what I was looking for. Robin clearly knows his instrument inside out but don’t let that intimidate you – he has a natural ability to explain things clearly in digestable chunks – a bit like building blocks to improve your playing. He is friendly and relaxed and quickly assesses where you’re at and what you need. I recently started lessons with him after playing guitar for a while and he’s totally helped me to re-focus and my playing has improved already.

If you can already play but suffer from confidence issues, Robin can help with that too. He understands many of the barriers to playing in public and playing live and can help you to overcome all that to get the most out of your playing. So you can get out there and do something with what you’ve learnt, if you want to of course.

Far from being a chore, I look forward to my lessons and to learning from Robin’s vast expertise and interesting perspective. Open-minded and friendly, he can teach all ages and stages. Highly recommended!
